The Guano Apes were formed in 1994 in Göttingen, Germany, by guitarist Henning Rümenapp, bassist Stefan Ude and drummer Dennis Poschwatta. Lead singer Sandra Nasić joined the band later in the same year. The band's career took off in 1996 after they won a contest for local unsigned bands with their song "Open Your Eyes". The song was also their first and most successful single, followed by the release of their 1997 debut album Proud Like a God. "Open Your Eyes" also appears in the Warren Miller movie, "Fifty" (1999). The single "Don't Turn Your Back On Me" was contributed to the Meschugge film soundtrack in (1999).

The Rock am Ring (Rock at the Ring) and Rock im Park (Rock in the Park) festivals are two simultaneous rock music festivals held annually in Germany. While Rock am Ring takes place at the Nürburgring racetrack in the west of Germany, Rock im Park takes place around the Frankenstadion in Nuremberg, in the south of Germany.

Because of this being part of a festival (Rock Am Ring) and this being broadcast live on MTV, the band kicked of with a few other songs so they could play the big hits during the broadcast. After Runaway the band did a countdown together with the crowd so they could make a lot of noise as soon as the broadcast started. This is also the reason why Wanted Dead Or Alive was played in the middle of the set, as is This Ain't A Love Song.

Did you know that Queen's singer, Paul Rodgers, used to play in this '70s band called Bad Company? Turns out they were pretty good too. On August 8, 2008, Rodgers took time off from his "regular" gig and reunited with the two other Bad Company founding members, Simon Kirke (drums), and Mick Ralphs (guitar), for a nostalgic 90-minute set at the Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida. Original Bad Company bassist, Boz Burrell, passed away in 2006, so the band was augmented this night by Rodger's solo tour bassist, Lynn Sorensen, as well as former Heart guitarist, Howard Leese.
