The discography of Bloc Party, a British indie rock band, consists of three studio albums, two extended plays (EPs), and two remix albums released on primary label Wichita Recordings. Bloc Party were formed in 1999 by chief songwriter and frontman Kele Okereke (vocals, rhythm guitar) and Russell Lissack (lead guitar). Bassist Gordon Moakes and drummer Matt Tong joined the band later.The quartet's first release was the Bloc Party EP in 2004; the first single, "She's Hearing Voices", was released from this, but failed to chart in the United Kingdom. This ‘novelty act’ of the psychedelic circuit evolved into Hot Tuna, and Jesse Block’s concert documentary, 25 Years and Runnin’, celebrates the simple sustaining powers of blues, bars, and Tuna. Jorma and Jack reflect on their influences and musical partnership since playing in a high school garage band, while their fans explain the Jorma/Jack chemistry that’s kept them tuned into Tuna for a quarter century. Emitt Rhodes is often written off as nothing more than a Paul McCartney wanna-be. Well, who wouldn't want to have a beautiful voice, be able to write lush and unforgettable melodies and also be rich and famous? Certainly Rhodes qualifies on the first two counts (failed miserably on the third) and to be honest his voice does sound eerily reminiscent of McCartney, but his strong songwriting and the deeply emotional qualities he brings to those songs make him far more than a McCartney clone. This CD covers the three records he made for Dunhill in the early 1970s, including all of his self-titled debut solo release. Emitt Rhodes is a lost classic filled with songs that easily stack up against the finest power pop. "Fresh As a Daisy" should have been a number one hit, with it's soaring vocal harmonies and star-crossed melody. "Live Till You Die" has beautiful vocals and the kind of chorus you find yourself humming all day long. Every song has a knockout hook, and the whole record sounds like it was recorded directly from Rhodes' soul...-

Shiver played psychedelic rock like many other bands from San Francisco in the flower power era of the late 1960s/early 1970s, but what differentiated them was their shear raw energy, making these acid rockers equally at home with the Haight hippy set and greasy redneck bikers. This album, recorded on a two-track recorder in 1972 with no overdubs, captures acid rock in its heyday, with crazed guitar solos, a wild rhythm section, and out-of-control screamed vocals. In fact, a more professional recording might have muted some of the vitality; what we get here sounds live and raw. "Tough as Nails" and "Bone Shaker" are full-throttled aggressive assaults, while "Interstellar Vision," and the lengthy "Alpha Man" slow things down slightly as the band soars into space for a far more psychedelic display of pyrotechnics. Some of the other tracks are not quite as strong, being more typical examples of early-'70s hard rock, though still quite un-commercial in sound, and certainly Shiver deserve to be rediscovered more than many of the other countless bands from that era whose releases are now being stuffed in the record store racks.-
