Intelligence officer Vera Atkins, said to be the influence for Miss Moneypenny, traced the fate of 118 missing SOE agents after the end of WWII.
Vera Atkins was a spymistress for the English secret service. While she presented herself as a proper Englishwoman, she was actually a Romanian-born Jew who arrived in England in the 1930s. She aided Resistance efforts in Nazi-occupied countries during World War II, selecting and dispatching 400 agents, including 39 women, who were smuggled into occupied France. Clandestinely, she was also able to help members of her own family.
