Review: Despite the relative obscurity of these quartets, they are an excellent introduction for new listeners looking for chamber music that is pleasant to listen to without being shallow. It is true that, with the exception of a few slow movements, these quartets do not present a serious musical challenge, but nevertheless the Endellion string quartet produces a smooth, brilliant modern sound that's completely on par with today's top standards in virtuosity, ensemble and interpretation. Warmly recommended, if for no other reason than to acquaint people with these witty and lovely works.
