A five star performance by, and tribute to, the patriarch of mambo, Israel Lopez "Cachao." Celebrating his 80 years in music, it was recorded at the Ziff Opera House at the Adrienne Arsht Center in Miami Florida on September 22nd, 2007, and was to be the final performance by the legendary bass player and composer of uncountable danzones and mambos.
Disc 1 encompasses the more well-mannered, divine, orchestral pieces led by Federico Brito's 24 piece orchestra. Disc 2 gets down and dirty, with the descarga jams and fire bombs that Cachao is so capable of. On this disc, Candido, Alfredo De La Fe, Issac Delgado and Lucrecia show up to stoke the fire even further.
Israel “Cachao” Lopez (born 1918 in Havana, Cuba), often known just as “Cachao” is a Cuban mambo musician and composer, who has helped bring mambo music to popularity in the United States of America in the early 1950s. He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and has been described as “the inventor of the mambo”. He is considered a master of descarga (Latin jam sessions). This performance is enhanced by the inclusion of some amazing talent, like that of violinists Federico Brito and Alfredo de la Fe. The legendary conguero Candido Camero conributes as does Orestes Vilato, Dave Valentin and Jimmy Bosch. Some of the singers you will hear are Willy Chirino, Issac Delgado, Hansel, Lissette, and the incredible Lucrecia.
