People like the stylish new look of Windows Vista, but some aren’t excited about the cost for the software nor the hardware upgrades that could be required to run the operating system . That’s where WindowBlinds 6 comes in (see our previous coverage). It gives folks who have a Windows XP operating system a Vista feel. It also gives Vista users some bells and whistles to customize the operating system to make it their own.

I have a desktop that runs Windows Vista and a laptop that runs Windows XP. After you get used to the new look of Windows Vista, then you kind of miss it when you use an XP machine. So, I was eager to give WindowBlinds 6 a test drive, since it allowed me to give my Windows XP laptop a new look. I am happy to say I wasn’t disappointed. The software breaks down the look of your operating system into three main categories, which include “Look & Feel,” Wallpapers,” and “Settings.”

For Windows XP users, the “Look & Feel” category is divided into sub-categories such as “Visual Styles,” “Colors,” “Fonts,” “Transparency & Blur,” “Toolbar icons,” and “Explorer Animations.” “Visual Styles” is where most people will spend their time, since this is basically where you marry individual settings into one theme. The software comes with a handful of themes, including one I strongly suggest everyone check out called “Molten.” Not that this theme is my cup of tea, but it really is a nice demo of what WindowBlinds 6 is capable of. More themes are available for download online, and there are plenty to choose from.
